People who undergo IVF treatment would be overwhelmed with the idea of egg retrieval. Egg retrieval or egg aspiration is a process of removing eggs from ovaries within 36 hours after the final shot of fertilization injections. This process would happen only when the eggs are fully matured and post the hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) injection.
It is recommended by the doctors that any patient who comes for IVF treatment needs to inform the team about allergic medication or if they consume medicines regularly. This should be mandatorily reported at least on the day of egg retrieval.
2. The patient is expected not to consume anything (eat or drink) as of midnight before the egg retrieval.
3. Mild sedation would be given to the patient during the procedure. This is a light form of general anesthesia.
Post the sedation, the vagina will be washed with a sterile water solution. A needle would be placed under ultrasound guidance into the ovary and fluid. The eggs from the follicles in the ovaries would be collected into a test tube. All these would be completed within 30 minutes.
A lot of women could return home within 2 hours post the procedure. Usually, the recovery period is quite rapid. Some women might experience pelvic heaviness, soreness, or cramping. Spotting can be seen as quite normal but should be less than a regular menstrual period.
Doctors would provide specific guidelines that could ease out the recovery period. This would be a precaution for all the patients after egg aspiration.
At Srishti Assisted Fertility & Advanced Laparoscopy Center, the doctor and the team would provide the right guidelines and precautions to all their patients post egg retrieval. Every patient must follow their information to avoid unnecessary complications.
